Meet Caty
For nearly 20 years, designer Caty Smits has been creating custom floral arrangements for every occasion.
Caty grew up in Macomb county where she studied floriculture at Career Preparation Center in Sterling Heights. In addition to becoming a Future Farmer of America, Caty also competed in Michigan Floral Association's design competition where she placed first among her peers.
In 2007, Caty began her professional experience working under some of the best floral designers West Michigan had to offer. After 10 years, Caty and her family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota working at one of the largest floral retailers in the country.
The birth of Caty's son in 2021 moved her family back to her original stomping grounds where Caty re-introduced her own floral foray, Earth in the Alley Design Studio.
Caty's love for weddings and events began nearly 10 years ago, where she has helped many clients across the Midwest discover their own passion for flowers.
Caty's arrangements have been featured in Thrifty Minnesota and Midwest Home Magazine. She has designed for such events as Urban Institute for the Contemporary Art's 'OddBall' and Frederick Meijer Garden's 'Mums and More' and Minneapolis Institute of Art's 'Art in Bloom'.
Caty's passion for sustainability in floral design has made her one of the most highly sought after wedding designers in Michigan's lower peninsula.

We worked with Caty and right off the bat I knew she would create something great for us. She seemed to understand my vision right away, and she selected some really cool and unique accents to the boutonnieres and bouquets at our wedding. She was also very accommodating when I wanted to tack on a few more things along the way.
